Nova was the gentlest of creatures. Nova came to join the Floyd family by way of son, Bradley, when she was just a puppy. A compassionate animal lover, Bradley had visited her family in rural South Carolina and instantly fell in love with one particular four-legged ball of fur. She was the smallest of the litter, and Bradley simply could not resist admiring this tenacious little puppy – who tried so hard to keep up with the others. It was love at first sight for both Bradley and Nova.
Over the years, she grew up to be a beautiful chocolate lab and was considered the “family dog”. When Bradley left home to attend law school, Nova was just two years old and she effortlessly moved into the Floyd family’s home, and into their hearts. Her favorite activities were happily chasing the ball or the stick thrown into the air. She was especially fond of going on hikes in the mountains and enjoyed morning walks with Dalton Floyd. Nova was also a wonderful and patient traveling companion.
Nova was keen on eating too much, and at times, she would even pout for more. She had a way about her that endeared her to the Floyds at every level. Referring to her as merely “man’s best friend” is such an understatement.

‘We can judge the heart of man according to his love for animals.’ —Immanuel Kant
Mr. and Mrs. Dalton Floyd lovingly donated Nova’s Garden to the Belin Memorial United Methodist Church located at 4182 Hwy. 17 Business, Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, 29576. The garden was designed by Reese Boyd & Associates.
Nova’s Garden is located within the grounds of Belin Church, and is a special garden reserved just for the memory of beloved pets. It was given to church members, and friends of members, for the disbursement of pet cremains. Surrounded by mature landscaping, beautiful flower beds, and a majestic live oak – Nova’s Garden has been instrumental in helping people deal with their time of grief, and having a peaceful permanent place for their pet’s remains helps to be part of the healing process for many.
‘But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of every human being.’ —Job 12:7-10
Contact the Belin Church office at (843) 651-5099 for your special time to visit the garden or to spread your pet’s ashes. If you are not a member of Belin Church, please ask a member that you know to be your sponsor for cemetery use. ‘As humans, we are so fortunate to know a pet’s devotion. Often times, we don’t deserve the level of love and commitment that they give to us unconditionally. Cherishing the precious memories of our pets is one way of holding them in our hearts forever.’ —Linda Floyd
